What should be a fond childhood memory

... (for most of us, hopefully):  On a weekday morning, the way the sunlight dapples the pool water. You're excited to get playing, and you exclaim, "I want to get in the pool!" But the adult says no because it's too cold. You go in anyway, find out she's right, then climb back out, shivering. You're still smiling because you got to go in!

When did we lose that level of excitement and, for some, that ability to see the good side to something?
